Emotions of Writing.

Well Newbery results came in. No, I’m not exceptionally disappointed, but yet, it would be nice to see that the writing I have done has been noticed by someone, anyone for that matter, not necessarily an award committee. With me being a new writer, I have never allowed others to read or review my scripts until it was published for fear of being discouraged along a road that only one can walk. I do however, look forward to that one glimpse at my stories being noticed, even a letter from a reader, librarian or committee telling me how the novel has warmed their hearts and stimulated their minds. Dreams…they drive us on to accomplish the things other see as impossible. At the moment I feel like the new kid on the block. The one that gets ignored and passed by because he’s the “new guy” until he melds with the group over time. So I keep writing…keep waiting…

My second novel will be out in February of 2007. It’s called “West’s Time Machine.” It is the best bit of writing I have ever reached to date. As I wrote it, I frequently leaned back in my chair, shaking my head, wondering how such wondrous words came out of me. On each rewrite, I kept doing this, fore the words seemed to be someone else’s. I suppose this is one of those gifts that each of us hope to tape into sometime during our lifetime, but writing is an amazing experience in and of itself.

George's Pond to appear in magazines this Spring.

Wow, what a week. My book George’s Pond is now currently on the list being considered by the ALA (American Library Association) for the Newbery Award and the book is also on the list for consideration towards juvenile fiction, Book of the Year Award from Foreword Magazine, so wish me luck. Newbery Committee meet next week in Seattle Washington to make a decision.

Yesterday eight of my English students bought my book and asked me to sign it for them. I was so touched by this. I signed it “I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. Happy Reading, Scott Waring.” The Happy Reading part I borrowed from Beverly Clearly, another children’s writer who often signed this way.

In April or May issues, “George’s Pond” novel will be found in the following magazines: Foreword Magazine (March-April issue & May-June issue),
Bookmarks (April),
Booklist (ALA magazine) (April),
New York Book Review (maybe)(March),
and possibly but haven’t heard yet about Publishers Weekly, and School Library Journal, and Booklinks (ALA mag) but I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Time to write 3rd Novel: It will be about DRAGONS.

Right now I am hard at work to create a great story about a boy named West and his dragon. I find that dragons are extreamly interesting animals and I am using alot of facts that other dragon stories like Eragon never even considered. I do feel that every page must have excitement to stimulate the reader. I Bought and read the story Eragon. It was a little interesting but I found many mistakes throughout every page. Perhaps he couldn't afford a real editor or perhaps the publisher liked it the way it was, never the less it was alright. It didnt have the detail of the "Lord of the Ring" series, but it was a good start.
I plan on creating a story weaving the main character that I use in all my stories. His name is West and he is a reluctant hero who finds himself imersed within a problem that no one else is willing to solve, so he tries to tackle the problem alone, in the dragon book he has a friend assist him. I dont have a title for it yet, because I continually change as I am writing and I might have to finish the entire story before I can settle on a title for it.
Also you can view "George's Pond; Created In the Tradition of Charlotte's Web." at the link below:

It is now on sale at iuniverse.com and soon will be on Barns and Noble and many other online stores in the next 30 days. In about 2-4 weeks, my second book will be released. You will really love this one. Its called, "West's Time Machine" and its for those kids dieing for some good time travel excitement. I really hope you like it as much as I did.
